Behind the Camera
Well, what can i say? My name is Lauren, I’ve been into photography for about eight years, and have just completed my BS degree in studio art/photography at Nazareth College. My photographic style tends to be very dreamy and surrealistic. I work with people, nature, architecture, and anything in between. For me, the camera helps me capture thoughts and feelings that may often go unnoticed. I’m always working to make the imaginary, tangible. Taking a photo is easy, but capturing the true spirit of a thought or concept can often be difficult.
Light, movement, and the progression of time are important factors in my work. Light can be used simply to illuminate what we are trying to see, or it can represent a fluid force attempting to break free concepts and visions. Although I do work with painting frequently, I find photography to be a greater challenge in creating dream-like imagery, and therefore feel more compelled to use it. It is often difficult to create something otherworldly that viewers can recognize, find differences in, and relate to subconsciously, especially through the use of a medium that is considered extremely realistic by nature. I continually attempt to understand the nature of photography and its relationship with reality.
